|Speech by Cinsul General Guo Kun at Shanghai Troupe's Gala|
Ladies and Gentlemen, my Nigerian brothers and sisters, colleagues of the diplomatic corps, welcome to tonight's gala.
On the joyful occasion of the Chinese New Year, the year of Rabbit, and the 40th Anniversary of Sino-Nigeria Diplomatic Relations, I am pleased to welcome all of you here to enjoy the performance of Shanghai Troupe.
During the last 40 years, we have witnessed tremendous progress in the bilateral relations between China and Nigeria. Such progress could be best described as a paragon of Win-Win. In Nigeria, you can see the Chinese companies build roads, power stations, donate schools, train technicians and therefore contribute a great deal to the local economy, especially in Lagos, which Governor Fashola must be very happy with. Meanwhile we have heard many beautiful stories about how Nigerian businessmen find their opportunities in China and succeed and vice versa.
Yet a healthy bilateral relationship requires not only an ever-growing trade volume but also a consolidation in the area of cultural exchanges, since we know that tonight' s youngest actor Sun Changle, who is merely 12, will surely become the witness of the next 40 year's Sino-Nigeria relationship. Indeed, it is through such cultural exchanges that Nigerians and Chinese can better understand each other.
