|Speech by Chinese Consul-General, Lagos, Mr. Guo Kun at the Farewell Reception|
Ladies and gentlemen,
First of all, I would like to thank the Chinese Community Western Africa and Nigeria for hosting this warm reception. And thank you for coming. I can not remember how many receptions I have hosted and attended ever since I arrived here. Well, I realize that this is going to be the last one and it is time that I am saying goodbye to you.
Time flies. Five years have passed since I stepped on the soil of Nigeria and arrived in Lagos. During my term, I have been soaked in your friendship and have been spoiled by your kindness. I do not regard your generosity only as a friendly gesture towards me, but see it as a clear demonstration of your affinity towards China. Without your assistance, to complete my mission as consul-general here would have been impossible. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to all of you.
Over the years, we have seen that our relations have become closer. With joint efforts, together we have built up mutual trust. In the economic and trade areas, there has been a significant growth. And there are an increasing number of traders, investors and visitors from both sides. Moreover, the culture exchanges have also gain momentum. Many Nigerians are learning Chinese now and Nigerian languages are being taught in China. In a word, I can feel the enthusiasms from both sides to get to know each other better.
Words would fail to describe my feelings tonight. On the one hand, I feel proud and joyful that my colleagues and I have done our utmost and contributed to forge a stronger tie between us. On the other hand, it is hard for me to bid farewell to this beautiful land and its friendly and intelligent people. These five years are memorable. I have made so many friends here whom I trust and regard as my brothers and sisters. As a Chinese saying goes, “no matter how exquisite the banquet is, there would be an end”. This is the reality we all have to learn to take. However, no matter when and where, I would never forget my days in Nigeria and in Lagos, and I would always keep you, my dear friends, in my heart. And I can assure you that I would continue to do my best to promote our friendship.
