On November 25, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Kazuyoshi Akaba, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan in Tokyo.

Wang Yi expressed, the current China-Japan relations face new opportunities for improvement and development. This morning, Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and I successfully chaired the first meeting of the China-Japan high-level consultation mechanism on people-to-people and cultural exchanges. It is hoped that the launch of the mechanism will encourage more people of the two countries to participate in the people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The Komeito Party you are in has long been committed to China-Japan friendship and it is hoped that the party will continue to adhere to this concept, keep China-Japan relations in the right direction, maintain the political foundation of bilateral relations, make new contributions to and play an important role in improving the feelings between the two peoples.

Kazuyoshi Akaba said, the Komeito Party has long been committed to Japan-China friendship. Bilateral relations have gone through ups and downs and shown a sound momentum of improvement and development. People-to-people and cultural exchanges are of irreplaceable significance in enhancing the mutual understanding between the two peoples. It is hoped that the two sides will vigorously expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation in tourism, youth and other fields, and realize the goal of people-to-people and cultural exchanges set at the first meeting of the mechanism today.
